Default AC won't charge?

My AC on my 96 XJ 4.0 blows hot, and it has since I hot it. All the parts of the system seem to be in working order, so I did the logical thing and picked up a recharge bottle of r-134a with the hose pre-attached. So I hooked it up to the low side service and turned on the truck, put the AC on max and....it won't go in. It is backing up into the hose on the recharge and not going in the line on the truck. Is something on the jeep screwed up or am I???

your expansion valve might be stuck closed...

try hitting it with blasts of hot and clod back and forth, it might work it loose and make it start working again

The expansion valve is where the 2 lines go into the AC pump, right?

Check. I found it. After a little more digging around, the AC clutch relay is missing. I moved the aux fan relay over to see if it worked, and I had cold air. Thanks for the quick response though!
