theres a reason its taking forever to fill up.....because freon and other refrigerants are supposed to be entered into the A/C system with a vacuum hose ensurring no extra pressure is made....this will blow gaskets in you A/C system and make it slowly leak out, and that will cause you to put a can of that in there every 2 weeks just to keep it cold......just saying

1. Start the vehicle.
2. Set your ac control **** to the "ac max" setting, one click up from the left side. Listen for the ac compressor to start, should hear it click and engine rpms will dip slightly.
3. Set your blower fan on high.
4. Lift the hood.
5. Look at compressor face to ensure face ring (electric clutch) is turning.
If YES, Is it running continously, or is it (cycling) If yes to either attach fill hose to low pressure fill port ajacent to accumilator. Read gauge (should be in green area depending on outside temp. If less than green area pull fill trigger WHILE compressor is running to top off system, release trigger to read gauge every few seconds so you dont overfill.
If compressor is NOT running you will not be able to add refrigierent. SO you will need to trouble shoot...
First check fuse for compressor to ensure its not blown, should be a 25 amp fuse located under the hood passenger side fuse box. If blown replace first and start again from top. If ok continue below.
Remove electrical connection on accumliator and jump connector with a wire (paperclip works good) and see if compressor face engages. If Yes than your system is empty or very low. Continue to jump connector and squeeze trigger to add refrigerent. (bottle should start getting chill as its added to system) Do this for 30 seconds or so (ensure compressor is running) Remove jumper and re connect connector. compressor should cycle on and off because of the low pressure cut out, continue to add refrigerent while its running only. Compressor should start to run continously as you fill it aprox 25 psi or so. If not re jump and try again.
If yes , continue to fill and compressor will start to run continously on its own and complete fill as seen above.
Note. my system was almost empty and it took a can and a half to fill...

Hopefully this has been fixed in the 3 years since this thread was started.....
Good info though for the future searches though. Gracias
I still run R12 in my Ranger. It's available but pricey. Ask around or retrofit.
I have two 30lb canisters that were previously purchased since we have 3 vehicles still R12; all classic/custom builds.
