Just use a little Cascade if a good 'ol flush doesn't do it.

doesnt your jeep have a heater control valve hooked inline to the heater hoses?? if so.. thats a place to start..

checking to see if air is acctually passing through your heater core...

or simply turn your heater on and feel the inlet and outlet hoses at full operating temperature.. if the hoses are hot to the touch.. then you have coolant circulation to some degree.. and it would likely point to an airflow issue.. im not 100 percent sure if your jeep has a blend door acctuator or what style it is... im familiar with the electronic versions on the GM side..

flush couldnt hurt anything either

i would start with a straight water flush before throwing any chemicals in there... just see if its stopped up first.. and see what comes out of it?

 

So I commenced the core flush yesterday using compressed air. I was blowing air into the hose that connects to the engine, i figured that was the the outlet from the core. Gunk didnt come out initially, but on the third blow it was a mess. I then put in a radiator flush product in for about 30 and flushed it out with water too. It didnt produce much. I forgot distilled water for the replacement coolant so i will go out and get that and see how the heat is. Hopefully its all good.

 

Using compressed air above 16 PSI or so is a real good way to blow a hole into the heater core, or to make a soldered joint separate.

 

Well, After the coolant refill there is some heat but its strange. I have to turn it to the ac side of the dial to get heat. There are no leaks that i can see inside the cab or below the xj. The radiator cap leaks a ton and needs to be replaced however. Any thoughts as to where i should turn to next? My father mentioned that perhaps it was the dial itself. Suppose ill go there next.

Just and update for you all.

After the flush, I went out and replaced the radiator cap as well since the old one was allowing lots of coolant out. The new one solved that problem. Also: I GET HEAT!

The flush and filling the coolant combined with the cap did it for me. Just realized the A/C probably doesn't work though . That's a spring project.
