Default ABS question, Help

How are you guys reading your ABS codes.

My ABS light is on and it's driving me crazy. I don;t want to take it to the dealer and pay a ridicules amount of money.

I'm going to clean the rears next week, the fronts look clean.

Any suggestions on cleaning them. Thanks.

What year is the XJ (the '97 one in your profile)?

Does it only come on after you start driving it or is it on constantly. I believe there is a way you can jump the connectors so it blinks the code, but not sure exactly with Jeeps.

ya it's the 97 country.

on start up it does it's check and the light comes off, after about a minute of driving it comes back on and stays on.

I would venture a guess and say that that is one of the wheel sensors going bad. You might be able to get an auto parts store and like Midas or something to scan it for free, or give a mechanic at a shop a few bucks just for a quick scan that way you know which one it is. The wheel sensors are fairly easy to replace and are cheap.
