Compressor is "short cycling" meaning it is low on freon. Federal regulations say leak must be found and fixed, or system must be evacuated of all freon which disables it.

yes it can. my power steering pump made the same noise when it was on its last leg. bearings could be going in your alternator pulley. loosen your belt and check it for play. should turn smooth with no noise. if there is any noise or feels loose and has play, its on its last leg. replace asap.

while you have your belt make sure to check all the pulleys for play and make sure they spin freely except the crank pulley of course

umm..: brickwall:

are you TRYING to start a fire? no WD40 on rotating electrical components. it is flammable.

If you spray the pulleys did not no they had wires in the bearings

But i guess i'll have to look for those wires in the pulleys

*sigh*

the bearings are what makes the pulley turn. the a/c and alternators are the only ones with electricals attached to them.

spray every other one you feel like...doesn't matter, since WD40 isn't gonna penetrate a sealed bearing and make it swtop whining, but DON'T spray a flammable substance in something that generates electrical current through friction. that's asking for trouble.

you have never used WD40 to quiet and old belt
it only a temporary fix so you can tell if the noise is the bely or something in the pulley system

there is nothing hot enough in the engine compartment to make wd lite on fire
