Well i bought a 99 xj 4.0 on nov.8th..... Noticed it has a riddle differential cover how do i find out what gears it has without taking it apart.... Thanks

If you have an auto transmission then you have 3.55's, if you have a 5-speed 3.07's and if you have the up-country pakage then you have 3.73's.

Since it has the aftermarket diff cover it prob doesn't have a tag. An easy way is to chock the front wheels and jack up one rear tire. With the trans in neutral turn the tire one complete turn and count the number of times the yoke turns. If it turns about 3 and 1/2 times it's a 3.55, 3 and 3/4 it's a 3.73 and so on.

Also if your lucky there still should be a tag on the passenger side dif. tube with your gear ratio on it among a bunch of other codes, itll be the bottom numbers with the biggest font if you still have the tag there.

did i tell u to pick up the rear so we can count how many turns the yoke spins when turning the tire!
