I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee and I honestly don't know much of anything about cars. I mean... I can change my oil... and I replaced my brakes once but I cant tell you what size engine I have, heck I couldn't even point to my spark plugs if you asked me.
Anyway... I wanna be able to pull a small trailer if i need to, just to help someone move if need be... Or maybe pull a jon boat or possibly a small bass boat in the future...
But I dont have a hitch! Is there a good reason for this or can I just bolt one on? And where do I get one??

Yes you can. You can go to etrailer.com and they will find ones that fit for you once u put in the info of ur jeep (year and make). They also have videos you can watch to install them, plus free shipping if the order is over $150. This is the route I'm going to go on my 99 when I get some money.

U-Haul online, $110 shipped next day. Also, I'd recommend an auxiliary tranny cooler to help the tranny keep it's cool when towing. As mentioned, U-Haul can install both.

I built my own hitch. Built from scraps out of my buddys garage. It tucks up higher than a factory style hitch and has held up to towing a 1700lb trailer with 2450lbs of scrap metal on it.
The hitch should not be your biggest concern. It should be your brakes. From my experience stock XJ brakes suck when towing any kind of weight.

you could also go pull one froma cherokee in a junk yard... just an idea.
i would recomend a cooler (light duty) just for kicks, i got mine for 24$ and was very simple to install, i put mine on for the load of bigger tires/towing.
they are very simple to remove and install.

it depends on what frame you have..XJs a have 5 different versions
I was gonna put one on mine but it is a hassle because you have to drill
Some XJs you dont need to but some have closed ends on the frame
Just look under your jeep and check it out

Pic of my Hidden Hitch I installed. Just a bolt on. I tow my 21' boat short distances with it. The boat is 4200# and a little bit of a handful for my Cherokee.

Depends on how much time you have but I took mine to U-haul and they installed one for $200. I was in and out in one day. They even did the wiring for the lights too.
