Exclamation 99 XJ A/C Issue

Hopefully this will be a simple fix but I have had many bad experiences with A/C lol. It was ICE cold ac! Actually better than my newer car ha! There were no signs of it getting warm, it was great. Then my wife drove it to work and she said it wasn't working! I got in it and turned it on and noticed the comp is not turning on. I put the A/C control on and the temp on cold with the blower on high and the compressor is not engaging. Could this be something like a relay or fuse? I checked the large 20AMP fuse in the fuse box by battery, Good. I swapped out the A/C relay with another out of my other XJ and nothing (I dont know if either one is good). They both clicked when the key was cycled.

Im hoping to get this resolved ASAP Ive got three small kids that will bake in this heat LOL Thanks for the help! 99 XJ 4.0L

Mine is a 2000 and it has a fuse there to control the compressor.I thought that too but I printed a wiring diagram off of Mitchell, surely the one year can't be that much different, I still would check it to be sure,

My similar problem turned out to be the clutch - check for voltage at the connector going to the clutch coil when the A/C is on. If no voltage is there try a jumper from the battery positive post to the lead going to the clutch ( engine does not need to be running ) - clutch should click/engage. If there is voltage but clutch does not engage, check the resistance of the coil to ground - should be around 3 to 4 ohms. If it is a high resistance this is your problem ( same as mine ) - if it is good - try shorting the low pressure switch ( the connector on the accumulator ) - if clutch engages when engine is running and a/c is on this means you've a low charge and possible leak.

Hope this helps you ...
