About a weak ago my alternator froze up and snapped my belt. Got another one from advanced auto and put it in fine and when I went to start it it absolutely fried my plug in 10 seconds so I think that’s the start. I then bought another one Off amazon, got a new plug, put both in. Started it and the gauges read 19 while the volt meter reads 18 on the battery. After running for a minute I shut it off and the alternator was verry hot. Also when I would rev, all of the gages would jerk around at like 2k even the gas guage... thinking the burnt plug messed up my computer.. someone please give me some better advice before I buy another alternator

 

When you say it fried your "plug", do you mean the plug that connects the alternator?

 

yes the plastic 2 prong plug in the alternator

 

That should not be happening. You might have fried your PCM, because that's where the voltage regulator lives, but the question is, what caused the initial problem.

Well my voltage regulator didn’t have a problem until advanced auto sold me a bad alternator that blew my plug up, after I got another one it reads 19v, I returned the one I just had in and ordered the same one l, ill check grounds tomorrow and will look into my computer more but when my new alternator comes on Friday that wil be the final decision to what the problem is I guess ...

 

Got a new alternator, still read 19v. Came to the conclusion my regulator is fried... should I get an external regulatory orr get a part out pcm what do you think??
