Default alternator

My alternator has put out 14volts since I first got my XJ. I've been offroading in all kinds of places but nothing that was too watery. Just the other day I went actuall mudding in watery clay. Jeep was running fine. I gave it a rest by turnin it off. As soon as I tried to turn it back on it hesitated like the battery was dead. Had a little more fun then turned it off agian. Then the bettery died. Took it back to the shop and the alternator was completly dead. Does anyone know a good alternator to go underwater with?

There is a splash shield under it made of some kind of composite woody fiber. It falls off or gets torn off. Put one back on or fabricate one you like and it will help a lot.

Im running a 170 amp powermaster alternator as opposed to stock 90. I did have to grind the mount and part of the engine block. but it is sweet, I can run 8 lights, headlights on high, stereo with sub, and AC no prob. I also did build myself an underpan. I ripped off stock rubber crap cuz it was falling apart. I made mine out of sheet metal. I made it in about 5 pieces to wrap arround sway and steering arms. it sits up higher and deflects water and small rocks but not large rocks, not a skid plate

I was thinking the same thing. I just thought about that today. You could just switch them or you could have two alternators. Im thinking. But im deffinitly going to do the grand cherokee switch.
