Default 99 stalls in reverse only

Hey everyone. I posted this on JeepForum too, but figured I'd join an XJ specific site since I'm sure there will be many more questions to come. I just picked up a 99 Cherokee that has been having issues stalling out. The previous owner replaced the throttle position sensor, air control valve, crankshaft sensor, and gave it a full tune-up. Nothing helped. He got tired of messing with it and let it go to me for pretty cheap. The first thing I did was clean the grounds. That seemed to help a lot, but it's still stalling when put in reverse. When in park, drive, or neutral, the Jeep runs perfect. When I place it in reverse though, it will buck and sputter out. Also makes a pretty scary clanking noise if it doesn't die right away. If the Jeep has rolled backwards any bit at all it won't start back up. But if I put it in neutral and roll it forward just a bit, it will start right back up no problem. Any ideas on what this might be? I'm thinking possible torque converter issue.

Check the bellhousing bolts. If they are loose, the engine and transmission wont move together, and the convertor can bind. Aside from that, my guess is electrical.

X2 on the bell-housing bolts. (engine to trans) I'd check some. Also Grounds! Yea you checked....add...check more. Torque converter does go the same way in reverse.

With the hood open watch the engine while you power-brake in reverse/ check engine and trany mounts.
