I have a 99 Jeep XJ that’s having issues starting up. I have to prime it 5-6 times and even then when I go to start it up it still long cranks for a couple seconds before it starts(but it always starts). When it starts it sputters and rough idles at first and then is fine. The other day I was parked on a driveway that was sloped. I left my Jeep running and went inside and into backyard to open gate to pull the Jeep in. It sat there running for probably 5-10 mins and when I got back in and put it in drive and began driving up the rest of the driveway it completely shut off on me. When it died I made it to top of driveway where it was sitting level and it started back up and drove fine the rest of the way. I’m thinking it’s the check value in the fuel pump going out and not having enough pressure to push gas into fuel rail and injectors. I have brand new fuel rail and injectors and spark plugs so I really think it’s fuel pump but would love feedback before I buy and replace!?

 

Sounds like fuel pump to me, but you might message a moderator and have this moved to a tech forum. You'll probably get more responses that way.

Yes, sounds like a fuel pump. You can rent a fuel pressure gauge at some auto parts stores. That will tell the tale.
