99 cherokee transmission shifting problems NEED HELP
99 cherokee.
Strickly my welling mobile. I have always wheeled it in 4wd low gear and with the tranmission selected in the 1/2 gear with the shifter.
Lately what it has been doing is when i am driving it will red line first gear and then shift into second gear and then 2 seconds later it will down shift back into first gear, which then causes it to be way into red line. It shouldnt be down shifting back into first, it should still be in second. Can anyone help or has anyone ran into this problem before and what should i do to fix it
Its super annoying

Does it shift OK otherwise? If not, check the 10 amp fuse for the trans controller in the power distribution box under the hood.
When in 1-2 it should stay in 1st until 4500rpms or so, and then shift into 2nd. If the TCU is unplugged or the fuse blown, it will pressure shift rather than by electronic control.

I liked the second article.. Too bad i have a 99 and they said it wont work.
I guess ill keep looking, not really sure yet if i want to invent another 150 just into the control unit.
I only use this cherokee for offroading and who knows how long its going to last.
