You really shouldn't have any problems with mixing them up since they are both different sizes. One is a 3/8" and the other is 5/8". Off the top of my head I don't remember which is which.

One is 3/4" and the other is 5/8". (must still be on the pain pills....ha, ha) 3/4" is the core inlet and 5/8" is the outlet.

Yep, bigger tube is inlet, smaller tube is the return. So you start flushing through the smaller

We understand Rob, you're usually pretty sharp....must indeed be the pills
I can recall one of the OEM hoses had some weird something/16 on it....which I could not find anywhere here...

OE factory top hose was 11/16". Jeep bean counter probably came up with that.

Default hose question follow up

OK, just saw this thread while looking for heater core hose answers. I have the same question and I am still confused because the question started with "the one on top or the one below" and the answer went to 3/8th and 5/8th and 11/16th and smaller one vs bigger one, etc. So, OK, in my 1999 it has two hoses going to the core, one on top and one bellow. Is the top one the outlet?

I am new to wrenching so I need it in crayon and dont try to use all 8 colors of the box! Going to flush radiator and heater core.

The hose that connects to the thermostat housing at the upper front of the engine is the inlet hose to the heater core. That same hose connects to the thermostat housing right next to the upper radiator hose.

Regardless, flush the heater core in both directions.
