When I bought the jeep the ac did not work so I pressed the shrader valve and it was completely empty.
I charged it up with a couple cans of refrigerant and it blew nice and cold for a few minutes then it got hot again.
I figured I had a major leak but when I pressed on the shrader valve I got a very strong puff of refrigerant pressure at the valve.
My compressor is not coming on any longer.
Any trouble shooting tips?

Any advice will be helpful, thanks.

The first time I recharged it last summer the ac worked great for a couple miles then quit working.
The compressor was not coming on any longer so I figured a stuck expansion valve or something.
After doing an Internet search I found a thread on removing a shim from the compressor clutch and cleaning up the clutch and disk surfaces which I then did myself.
The compressor was coming on afterwards but cycling off quickly so I figured I was low on refrigerant and added a can.
Compressor now coming on fine, cooling well....took it for a long drive about 30 miles to run some errands and it is blowing ice cubes baby...yeah!
Hopefully it will hold the charge for a while but I have a refrigerant sniffer and will try to pin down any leaks especially if it runs down again.
105 degrees out today in Georgia and my wife is happy we have a vehicle with ac now.
Now to figure out what is wrong with her pain in the rear astro vans ac.

it was 105 in Alpharetta yesterday when I did mine.
it took literally a half hour to make the repair and add a can of refrigerant.....it was very rewarding after sweating your butt off.
Wife and kids took it out today and its still blowing ice cold....very glad that it did not all leak out...very glad so hopefully the leak was very small.
for what its worth, my compressor only had one shim behind the clutch so I removed it, sanded up anything that looked like it made contact and put it back together.
