Yeah I took the picture of the manufacture date just to end any farther question of the coil packs. And I think that's what I'm going to try next. Won't have a chance this week though probably. 40% chance of rain all week. If I get a break then ill try to replace it. Its a pain though.

Engine VIN should be different. Later engines have VIN "S" (Cherokee 99-01, Grand Cherokee 99-04, Wrangler 97-?)
Later heads have holes for ign coil bolts. Fuel injectors for "S" engines are not used on any other engines.
What is 8th VIN letter from left (engine)? What is 8th from right(year, Y is 99)?

Where is the VIN at on the engine? And my new crank sensor is coming in some time soon. So ill let y'all know how that goes.

If the VIN is the barcode on the front then its long gone. Lol.

Should be on the side of the block near the back just under the head but I believe he is talking about the body's vin and not the motor I am pretty sure your jeep did not have the coil pack system but if u want to check 8 in on the body vin what is it

Ahhhhhhhhhhh she is so close! I put the new one in and before we were only getting what sounded like one hit now with the new one I'm getting what sounds like 4 hits back to back like its firing.

I need to drain the tank of the old gas and see what happens.

It does. We redid that a little while ago. Just the way you said.

She's firing and hitting but not getting enough to start.

And btw Cherockee I've been meaning to tell you my great grandmother and grandfathers side live up in Dushore PN right up the mountain from Williamsport. We drive through there when we visit her. So nice to meet you.

What exactly did the trick? I'm glad I could help, and I'm sure if they can handle reading the whole thread it will help others too.

Dushore is a nice area, lots of good hiking up that way. Hopefully the gas companies don't ruin it.

Well I replaced the distributor cap, rotor, replaced all spark plugs, set the timing according to the line up holes, and lastly replaced the crankshaft position sensor. Oh and also added coolant. Cause the Haynes manual said the temp sending sensor can also control timing and ignition. So it was either the CPS or the coolant that did it haha.

And yeah agreed. Last time I was up there last summer that's what all the talk was about the natural gas they found. First coal mining now this. My grandpa grew up there and I've seen all the mines and everything that wasn't closed. And then his brother owns a successful saw mill up there too. I love it up there. Just wish I could stay longer and see all of it.

Well it was one or the other that got it going. I found it weird when I read I controlled timing too.

But it is missing on one of the cylinders so we've got to look into that. Hopefully its just got to burn the crude out from all the past attempts at starting.

Edit: reved it to 4k rpms really quick and cleared to out.
