Default 99 4.0 Head question

1999 xj classic 4.0 4wd aw4.

Bought a short block to throw in my 99 and swap my 99s head over to. I was told it was a 99 block, noticed obd1 connectors...unless it was a 99 engine thrown into a OBD1 jeep, its not a 99. Soooo I havent found the actual year of the block (currently at work) but i need to know what year short blocks my 99 head will mate up to without issue, connections or accessories aside, im talking about physical compatibility to the shortblock. If someone has a link providing full compatibility info, that would be stellar

There's an engine swap sticky at the top of the forum. Might have your answers.

I have a 99 cherokee sport with the 4.0. I put a 93 4.0 short block in it last october. I reused the head off my 99 which was a 0630 casting number. Use the fly wheel off of your old motor because the crank sensor for the older ones is different. The 93 block didnt have alignment studs for the head so it makes the head gasket install a little harder but it will work. I have put about 8,000 miles on it, no problems. Also use your old distributor, and while your in there replace your rear main seal and oil pump those parts are really cheap at rockauto.

Right on. Just found out the short block is a 92. So use my fly wheel and distributor. Obviously swap over all the obd2 stuff too. Sweet thanks everyone
