Default 98XJ Electrical Question.... What is....

98 Cherokee, 4.0 .... under the back seat, on the driver's side, is a transformer with a 3-pin plug, just to the left of the center-tunnel. My plug is broken, so I need to go get a replacement but for the life of me I cannot find this device in the service manual or wiring diagrams anywhere. Yes, it is a stock device, it was not added after-market. The cables that come out of the floor pan pass thru a grommet and split three-ways.

Can anyone tell me what this device is, name and function so I can get a replacement plug at the dealer?

I can post up pics if needed. Thanks.

Here ya go: right alongside the center passage hump, on the driver's side: Wow, is it dirty down there....

I though the two-green and two-yellow might be the rear speaker leads, and maybe it's a noise filter?

Ahh, you must hace abs, that is an acceleration sensor.
ACCELERATION SWITCH

The acceleration switch is located under the rear seat. The switch Acceleration Switch , provides an additional vehicle deceleration reference during 4WD operation. The switch is monitored by the CAB at all times. The switch reference signal is utilized by the CAB when all wheels are decelerating at the same speed.

Was the connector shorted? Was this causing your BUS error?

No, it just falls off if you look at it cross-eyed. The PO broke the retaining strap that keeps it secure. But the ease of which it falls off makes me think it is not making good contact, even if I used cable ties to hold it on there. I sprayed it out with contact cleaner, but right now I don't know if it makes any difference on my refusal to start.

Too bad. That's what I'd call a good find. Seriously, who looks under the back seat.....like who'da thunk it?

Keeping my fingers crossed for you

My dealer had never seen on of these before, and we could not find a part number, an item name, a replacement part, or even a designation on any of the wiring diagrams. In short, this piece was to remain a mystery, but I found (after paging and paging thru the SM) connector C109 goes to what is both alternatively called the "G Switch" or the "Accel Switch". The dealer sold me a new harness repair kit, p/n 05013933AA 3-Way Sealed Connector and tomorrow I will repair that, which should kill my ABS light I'm hoping.
