I have a 98 sport 4x4 inline 6, aw4. A few days ago I drove through a deep-ish puddle, maybe about 2 foot of water or so. Immediately after the jeep would not shift to 2nd until about 4500rpm under hard acceleration. And no shift past that. Drove home about 5 miles at 45mph sitting at 3500rpm. CEL came on after a few minutes, read codes came up with P0122- TPS voltage low, P0740- Torque Converter Clutch circuit malfunction, P0123-TPS voltage high, P0320-Ignition/Distributor Engine Speed Input Circuit Malfunction, and a pending code of P0138- downstream 02 sensor high voltage. The jeep starts fine, idles fine but when in park if engine is revved it bogs down to 3-500 rpm when returning to idle and will eventually die out after a couple times of revving to 3-4k and allowing to return to idle.
TPS was replaced about a year ago due to water damage so being the it was still under warranty I replaced it yesterday with no change whatsoever in symptoms. So now I'm searching for a cure. Haven't checked distributor for water yet but that will probably be my first stop today. TPS voltage high and low? TCC circuit malfunction? Could it be ECM or TCM? Water wasn't that deep but deep enough, didn't come up over the hood but was definitely at the bottom of the doors with a 3in lift and 31's. Only diagnostic scanner I have is a cheapo harbor freight code reader. Any insight to this would be greatly appreciated. It's been 4 days now in hot AZ summer temps so I would think any water would have evaporated but in a closed space I guess it could still be lingering. Will be testing sensors etc today trying to get to the bottom of it but it always helps to have some past experiences that could point me in a direction. Thanks.

I'd probably start by inspecting the wiring, opening any related low-lying connectors and hosing them out with contact cleaner. Damage to the output shaft speed sensor wiring could cause non-upshifting out of 1st

Yes, exactly my thoughts.
After testing new TPS to be sure it wasn't a factory defect or something... Tested good compared to the one I took out which had some voltage readings that were way out of specs.
Started with distributor just to be sure... Looks like new cap and rotor will be coming in the near future but that's another issue. Cleaned up battery terminals just to be sure I had good power and grounds throughout.
Then I thought... Maybe I should re-set the ecm and see what happens. Did the whole remove positive cable and ground it for 30 seconds, replace, turn key on turn on/off headlights, start jeep.
Took it around the block and out to the highway and viola! Shifted fine, lock up, throttle response etc. Still had a cel that was throwing the same codes minus a couple. Turned it off, drove it 1/8mi, repeated this 3 times to give the computer a chance to collect readings. Turned it off with cel still present, started again and no cel.
Last time I replaced the TPS it wasn't necessary to reset and symptoms were somewhat similar except the only 1&2 gear shifts.
Scanner still showing 2 codes but no light and they are different codes than previous so I will look into that later on.
Thanks for the response and the tips... I will still go through and do that also maybe add some dielectric just to help from future water exposure... After all it is monsoon season in this land that's normally just dust and rocks so have to get my mud time in where I can! Thanks again, hope this helps someone else in the future also!
