Default 98 xj no spark

My 97 xj won't start. There is voltage going to the coil. I replaced the cps. No output from coil. It's a 4.0 5 speed running complete wiring and drivetrain from a 98 5 speed. I don't have a scanner and am not going to tow it to a place that will scan it.

Only thing I can figure is the coil. I didn't change anything when I did the swap, no grounds are loose, everything is connected, no bad fuses or relays. It ran after the swap, but had intermittent starting issues where it would crank but not start, then magically fix itself.

I need it running and driving by sunday at the latest, so any help would be great

He said he replaced it, very doubtful.

When you turn your key do you hear the fuel pump kick on? Check for spark and fuel

Pump kicked in just fine. Injectors wouldn't fire, either.

It was the distributor. Rather than swap it and run the risk of indexing it wrong, I swapped the sensor with a lucky spare that I had, started right up

Thanks guys

Alot of people say what you said about the coil, but it almost never turns out to be the coil. Almost always the distributor.
