Hey guys so I haven't had my xj long so bare with me pls. I'm trying to figure out what fuel filter I need? I don't see it on the rail anywhere like my 4runner. I was told it is in-between motor and tranny?? Also when I search I see mainly fuel filters I'm not used to seeing and they are small and don't look like anything I've seen. This is a 98 xj 4l. If anyone can point me to the part I'd really appreciate it. Was also told it could be in the gas tank!
please help because I just can't figure it out.
Guy at Napa said it's in the tank but videos I've seen, are under the car on the frame so I'm really lost and would greatly appreciate any help with this situation.
Have a great day and thank you! Below is what I'm seeing while searching. I'm just used to the can style held on by brackets under the 4runner.

You have to drop the tank or cut a big hole in the bed...my 01 has almost 300K with no fuel delivery issues. This is one of those....don't mess if not broken
As already noted, the filter on your 98 is part of the "fuel pump assembly", located in the gas tank.
Unlike earlier vintage vehicles, these filters are generally not a maintenance item. If/when you have actually diagnosed a fuel delivery problem, I recommend that you replace the entire "fuel pump assembly" with the best quality assembly you can get your mitts on while you have gone through the trouble of taking the tank down.
Thanks guys for your great responses, much appreciated. I was wondering if I should run some bgk or seafoam to try and clean the system up because I'm trying to do what I can before taking it to shop.
any other ideas I can try?
Thank you very much,
Bryan
