Default 98 XJ A/C Woes

I have a 98 Cherokee sport 4.0. The air always blows warm on vent or A/C and blows hot on heat.

When I turn the heat selector **** the cable moves and it sounds like the blend door moves as well.

When I turn the A/C, heat, vent, defrost **** I hear things move and the air flow changes as it should.

The refrigerant is fully charged and the compressor does cycle on and of.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...I have 2 Jeeps and neither have working air!

OP, you don't say it in so many words so will ask: the compressor is pumping chilled refrigerant through the system but for whatever reason, the chilled air is not making it out of the vents in the cabin?

Yes this seems to be the case.
At first I thought it was the blend door because it blows warm/hot air even on vent when it should be blowing air the same (or close to) temp as outside. But the blend door seems to operate fine as it's cable driven.

If you have access and know how to use ac manifold gauge please post your high side and low side pressures and the ambient temperature( outside temp) to help accurately diagnose your ac concern

When I turn the temp select **** and look at the box under the glove box there is a cable that moves. I purchased the Jeep from the Sheriff's Dept. and was a police vehicle...Maybe that has something to do with it?

I started messing around with it again today and the clutch no longer engages, looks like I found the culprit. Thanks for the responses.

'98 was the last year for a cable operated blend air door. They should have retained it because the electric actutor can be a PITA.
