98 Sport, DTC Trouble Code Diagnosis
ll make it as simple and straight forward as I can! 1998 four door sport, 4.0, auto trans, nine stock!
Check engine light came on today and pulled the code it's a p1749. Indicated tcc solenoid. I believe when it said it it was c? Just wondering of any ideas on what to look for. The sokenoids are crazy expensive and dont want to replace unless I absolutely have too. I was reading somewhere to check/ replace the case ground, any idea where that is at actually? Or has anyone else had a similar problem and what was your fix? Thanks for all the help.

Here are the test procedures for the trans electrics.

Here is the cheapest Reliable place Ive found for the solenoids.

Lots of info in that thread.
Does the code clear itself or do you?
Do the testing at the TCU plug under the dash. That way you are testing the wiring as well as the solenoid itself.

The case ground is near the trans dipstick tube on the engine block. I would rule it out as the other solenoids are not giving trouble codes yet. Reset the code to see if it comes back on right away or only when the trans is hot.

The solenoid locks the torque convertor to save gas by reducing RPMs when locked and reduce slippage to lower trans temps.
To test lockup drive in OD at about 50 MPH. While keeping your right foot steady on the gas tap the brakes with your left foot. This should raise the RPMs about 2-300 RPMs. The switch that disengages the lockup is part of the brake switch.
