Default 98 motor into my 97 XJ

I found a 130,000 mile motor from a 98 XJ and I want to buy it to swap into my 97.

My question is about sensors and wiring connections. Will i have to change anything or will my 97 harness plug right up to the 98?

A buddy warned me about the different wiring between different years as he had to almost completely rewire his harness swapping a 99 into his 97.

Thank you for any productive input.

Hmmm... the 99 to 97 should be a pretty easy swap. Was your friend's from an XJ to XJ or was it a 99 GC (which used the redesigned block)?

Why are you swapping a bunch of wiring anyway? The engine itself doesn't have wiring. If you strip the block down and use the existing manifolds you shouldn't have to worry about any wiring. 98 to 97 should be a direct and easy swap.

As Pat says above, we need to know what the donor engine came out of.

You are good to go. Swap intake manifold etc as needed, sensors etc. No big deal at all.

Alright, wanted to be sure before I drove 3 hours and dropped $250 on the motor.

Thank you!
