My steering linkage is completely shot. I already have an HD track bar on the way. I’m going to do the ZJ tie rod upgrade. I’m very confused on exactly what parts I need to buy.

1. When they say left side tre is that driver or passenger side?

2. what zj parts do I need to order for just the tie rod and assembly?

3. I’m not sure if the current setup is stock, I’d like to stay at the current quality or better if it is upgraded, see pic

4. I have a brand new OME steering dampener. Should I just order a stock xj drag link? From what I understand it is the same for xj/zj

5. any other tips/tricks for getting this done? How bad will my alignment be after if I do an at home alignment as others have described? Is it true that with the np242 toe in should be 0?

 

The V8 ZJ tie rod is used with the stock XJ drag link. It is the same as the ZJ

 

You use the link that goes to the drives side wheel you change all of the link . the xj has a hollow tube and the v8 zj is a solid part , much heaver and stronger .

 

Yeah, that's the trick. Not the ZJ linkage, but the V8 ZJ linkage.

 

yes, I knew that, but thanks for clarifying since I left it out. When I ask what parts I need, specifically right inner/outer, left inner/outer. I don’t really understand what that all means. Are the outers the ends and the inners are the tie rod/drag link? Do I just need the tie rod and tie rod end and drag link with tie rod end? Hope I’m being clearer about my questions.

 

You need the whole tie rod. It will look like this. This is one in a V8 ZJ. Excuse the weeds
