Default 98 Fuel Injector or Transmission Issues

So I bought a 98 cherokee and it is now having issues driving and the check engine light is on. Its a 6cyl, 4 door, automatic with about 160k miles. It starts and idles fine, accelerates to between 20-30 mph without issue but then doesn't seem to want to go any further. Had my friend check it out and he says it definitely needs a fuel injector but he hasn't had the time to pull apart the whole transmission. Any ideas on if the fuel injector is doing this or if its a bigger trans issue? Thanks

Are there any codes stored? What led him to a fuel injector? Not sure where the trans issue fits in...transmission and fuel injectors are not related.

Check to see what the codes are. They can also be "soft" or "pending" codes.

You can go to Advance Auto Parts or Autozone and use their computer for free. Then you can post the codes and we can help you better.

ill go grab some codes today. but i guess my question is would the fuel injector effect my vehicles ability to go over 30 mph or does that have to be a transmission issue?

Why does your friend think that it is a fuel injector?

Apparently I misunderstood him cuz we just talked about it again and he said the codes that came back indicated it could be the throttle position sensor. I know where that is and how to do it, could that cause the problems I am having? Anyone had to replace that before?

Unless you post the EXACT codes here (not a description), this is pure guesswork.

Post the codes. With OBD codes, the devil is in the details.
