Question '98 cooling problem

Ok, as if I don't have enuff to fix on this damn thing, now this happens on the way home from doing the brakes....

I'm driving, notice the heat gets a little cold, I look down, and the temp gauge is a bit over 210. About 2 blocks later, the 'beep' of my Check Gauges light is on and my temp gauge is pegged. I pull over ASAP and I'm blowing steam. I'm boiling over from the puke tank (which was puking) and I can hear/feel it boiling in the radiator. I wait about 10 mins for it to cool off, start it back up and hurry home (5 mins from where I was at).
On my side street, I hear the beep, the idiot light illuminates and the gauge is pegged again, this time it stalls (I was only 5 houses away).

This thing has had cooling issues before, but just reg. crap like the Water Pump at 100K, Rad Cap, and a pin-holed #1 freeze plug. All things that were fixed easily.

For some reason, I'm thinking its a stuck thermo...
Any other ideas/suggestions?

Sounds like a seized T-stat.

Default I might have killed the 98...

Update: So I went to start it up today, since it's like a balmy 14 degrees and all, just to get things flowing, and the thing has a hard time getting going (which I figured) and then it caught, but smelled like something was burning and it was running like all hell, and my 'check gauges' lamp was lit... So I shut it off. I was a lil curious about what was happening, so I fired her up once again, same thing... I still haven't gotten to the thermo, flush and whatnot, the u-joints and the rear brakes...
So I think that last lil overheat might have killed her, but I'll keep ya posted on what's up.
It might be awhile though, I don't have a garage and it's a little chilly outside...

when you fire it up does it run like its missing on a cylinder or two, and when you bring the rpms up does is smooth out some? That is what mine was doing after the head gasket went. Water was making it miss on 2 cylinders. I also had 2 pistons that welded the rings to themselves.
NEW motor later

Did ya blow the head gasket with the over heat last night.

And also your initial problem sounds like a stuck T-stat also.

If you ran it overheating until it stalled, better do a compression check on all cylinders. Head gasket could be blown.

Since it wasn't blowing water out of anywhere but, the puke tank, I agree with the other guys that your T-stat could be stuck shut.

UPDATE:

So I went and got the new thermostats (I figured I'd do the 92 since it was kinda nice out) And so far it is not overheating.
I had to get a new belt also ad the frozen water pump kept throwing it, and finally shredding it. My coolant mix was way off (hence the frozen engine when it was cold) and everything is ok. No cracks, no leaks, no bad head gasket, no warped block/head. Nothing. Not even from freezing.

The only weird thing is the thermostat worked when I tested it in the house, so I just figured it was an intermittent sticking problem with it (I mean it was factory...). All in all I don't think that 10 years out of a belt and thermostat isn't too bad.

Now we all copacetic. Now it's the 92's turn to get a new water pump on it in addition to jackin with the NSS on this one now...
