Default 98 Cherokee 4.0 engine stalls

Hi,

I drove my car 1/4 mile from home, it started to splutter and then it stalled. I had to tow it back home and when I turn the key it starts for about 2 seconds then it dies. Still spluttering. Sounds to me like an ignition, fuel pump or maybe the "particle sensor in the exhaust" issue. Any ideas?

Kind Regards

Fredric

It its your cat it should be getting hot from back pressure I had one that actually turned cherry red,
Pull engine codes before you guess. it could be anything from Fuel system to Electrical, To me I would look Fuel first since you said it sputters, which again could still be electrical short or system failure

If your cat is plugged you would know it. Youll lose power, the motor will be louder than the exhaust. Put your hand in front of the tailpipe with the motor running. If there is alot of air comming out then you should be good. I would check your throttle positioning sensor. Take it off of the throttlebody and turn the bullet looking thing. Put it back in and see how it runs. If different but still not good then turn it the other way. If still not good but different then replace it.
