Default 98-01 Cherokee's what to look for

I am looking into getting a 98-2001 Cherokee Sport as my first vehicle (i'm 17)

What should I look for in them that is bad or where rust occurs? Is there any problems with the 98-2001s?

I've seen a few that I am interested in buying that are around 120,000-130,000 miles, is that to much?

Thanks.

What engine does yours have? I was reading on wiki about the 97-01 and it said the straight six was only used in 2001. Then I looked at the engines for the 97-01 model and it shows I6 for 87-01, is yours a straight six your talking about?

I plan on using it as my daily driver and plan on wheelin it once i got some extra cash to put into it.

5000-6000 is what im looking to spend. Thats what i see most 98 and 99's going for anyways. 00' and 01' are a bit higher in price.

well I saw a 2000 Cherokee sport with 125k miles for sale for 5995 dollars. would that be a good deal? it seems in good condition from the pictures, but i would still need to check it out in person. I was thinking more like 5000 would be a better deal for it judging from kelly blue book.

yeah i-6 is the tank. Stock cherokees are very capible also. sway bar discos are a good investment for someone who want to keep stock but still wheel. I like the look of the 97-01s but i am not big on obd2 (every car 96+) so i am converting my 92 to look like an 01.

If you buy a cherokee with an i-6 and do all the scheduled matenence you will be driving to your kids graduation in it

$5995 in my opinion is way overpriced. '98-'99 IMHO are the best choices. The best advice I can give you is be patient. I looked at a lot of XJ's before finding mine, many with the $6000 asking price and in poor condition. The search took me a couple months and was frusterating to say the least. Chill, hang back, don't be in a hurry and let your XJ find you. I ended up with a bone stock one owner (female) '98 with a clean one owner carfax and all the maintenance records for $3500 (book was $5800), 138000 on the clock. Not a mark on the interior it does'nt leak and 0 rust. All by not being in a hurry. Take your time, you'll find your XJ and the more patience you have the better the deal you'll get.

Thanks for all the help.

Is there any spots that I should look for that rust often or anything?

check the rocker pannels that is a very common spot, and mayby check the floor under the carpet in the front driver and passanger foot area.

and 6000$ for a 00 seams realy expensive, i found a 01 on craigs asking price of 2000$ i almost bought but already had 3 cherokees in my driveway at the time...
