97 XJ trans problems

97 XJ trans problems
ok, i guy i know has a 97 XJ with a 4.0/aw4 that only has P, R, N, and 3rd gear...
everything was fine until the nuetral safety switch went bad and wouldnt allow it to start. he went to the junkyard and got a NSS and now when he puts it into ANY gear on the shifter, it's in 3rd.....acceleration is extremely slow and it's turning close to 3k rpm's at 55mph...
i'm thinking it's something electrical or he didnt plug something back in when he was working on it...i did soem research and it looks as if the NSS has to be adjusted in order to function properly, would this cause him to not have OD or 1-2?
