97 XJ stereo replacement and re wiring
I have the stock unit with just the cassette player. That cassette player is broken and I was curious if I could swap in the CD/Cassette stock unit without making any modifications? Nothing against aftermarket head units, but I like the stock look and need the cassette player for an MP3 adapter. Having the CD player would just be a bonus.
I have the driver side speaker problem so I would be changing out speakers and re wiring at least the driver side. What route do y'all take with the wires? I had to run wires behind the paneling with an old Comanche but I don't think that'll work with the newer design.

An aftermarket head unit would be easier to find, and may end up being the same price. If you're looking for an MP3 adapter, most of them have aux inputs now and you don't get that cassette hiss - and will most likely sound better, even with stock speakers.
As far as the wiring, I just went the start from scratch route. I got some speaker wire and just ran them along the same route as the stock wiring.

There's a fair number of CD/ cassette models on eBay.
I couldn't find a way to get the wires around their original route in My Comanche. Do the panels on the newer XJs just pop off then or are there some hidden screws?
