thanks... oh and yeah i have a full Chrysler dealership at my disposal
my questions come across like i'm a moron cause when it comes to jeeps i am. in the 10 years i have worked at the dealership i have maybe worked on 10-20 jeeps and it has all been electrical. all Chrysler stuff is pretty much the same electrical wise but i have no idea about the hard parts.
i guess one way i could find out if it'll run or not is to go unplug everything tomorrow and try starting it up and seeing how she runs. i have a custody court case to go to tomorrow and then i guess i'll see how that turns out and that'll tell me how fast i need to have my jeep back together. hopefully i need to have it back together asap in which case i'll get a auto trans coming, if not i'll continue to research and try to do the 5 speed swap. i have a motorcycle to get me around town for now but it's not exactly kid friendly.. lol

Then you're going to be receiving alot of PM's from me soon. Got 2 dirty 30's we're swapping in the next few months.
And +1 to keeping it Auto. The AW4 is damn near bullet proof, R&R and life will be good. Doing a swap, potentially getting overwhelmed & discouraged and annoyed, leads to giving up and selling the rig.

there was a guy that stopped by the shop a little while ago that was parting out a 98 xj, i guess i'll try calling him tomorrow and seeing if he still has the trans. i just really don't like working on my own stuff.

I've been a bad boy....I just picked this up today:
So I guess its time for us to vet this thread rolling again.
Some questions:
Anyone ever swap trans and regret it? I don't see that happening here just asking.
Is there any chance I will be able to use my current driveshafts?
Any chance my current t-case linkage will work?
My Jeep:
97 cherokee se 4.0, stock driveline, 3"lift, 31's, 1" t-case drop... I hope that is all that matters.
Donor jeep:
98 cherokee sport, bone stock 214,000 miles owned by a older couple since 99, new clutch, looks like the trans ir t-case has a slight oil leak. Po says 4that wheel lo doesn't work.
Im not really looking forward to doing the swap but I am looking forward to having my jeep being a 5 speed. The bad thing is that season is about to kick in at work so it might not be till next summer that I get to do the swap.

I am strongly considering rebuilding the 98 but im not sure id save money by having 2 jeeps and having to maintain them both.
