Hey guys i have 97 xj sport 4.0 l6 recently there was a clunking sound coming from the ac comp i ended up replacing the pulley, clutch, coil magnet and bearing assembly and the belt as well. After i replaced the belt i started it up and it ran fine but when i turned the ac on it was squealing pretty bad. i dont have a tension gauge so i tightened it up little by little until it stopped (thats what i read i could do). To me it seems a little tight but i have read on many forums that cherokee's naturally have to be really tight is this true should i take it in and have someone look at it any help would be great!
ps if it is supposed to be really tight any thoughts as to why cherokees have to be so much tighter then any other engine?

You are correct. The belt does have to be incredibly tight.
I was never able to understand myself why it is so much tighter for the 4.0 then any other vehicle I have ever owned.
