my friend believes that it is a dead thermostat and possibly water pump... as there was fluid around the thermo area & the collant/water in my res. tank was boiling... I have no new codes... any ideas other ideas. I have been getting a code 43 for a while bit it is a ignition control module fault, I didn't think to post it originally... but I have been getting those code ever since I replaced most of my ignition system.
I get codes:
12 - battery unhooked or computer unplugged
43 - ignition control module
55 - end of codes.

Well sir, if water pump fails, jeep will NOT start or run.
mine failed (miserably, i maight add, on alligator alley, halfway between Tampa and Ft. Lauderdale. at 3 am).

so might wanna replace that and thermo, flush coolant system thoroughly!
best I can suggest for you. Good luck!

when the pump fails, the blades warp into the housing causing it to lock up... in part it won't spin, locking the serpentine system up basically making it a sitting duck...
I know from my catastrophic failure a mile from work 2 months ago...
still jeep-less.

well I replaced the thermo and my coolant temp sensor which was bad... now I can't get the thing to even try to turn over... acts like the battery is dead so I am trying to charge it just in case... the belt spins when I try to start it but it doesn't seem to want to turn over.

if that's the case what can I do? or what can I look for to see if that is going on. Gonna see if the Crackshaft position sensor is shot next also... the last time I had an issue this is why it wouldn't start.

So it won't start?
Well there's a couple reasons that could cause a no start.
1. You blew a head gasket (odds are it's this)
2. You got your distributor and plug wires REALLY wet, since the overflow tank and heater hoses run right by there...
Let the Jeep sit for a few hours with the hood open so the distributor can dry out a little, and see if it will start.... If it doesn't it's probably the head gasket.

won't turn over, acts like battery dead: engine locked up, either a hydro lock or galled pistons/rings/bearings.
the belt spins when I try to start it: sounds like engine actually is turning over but isn't FIRING OFF.
So which is happening? They can't both be happening.

sorry I'm a bit stressed. ok it does spin (the belt) it doesn't fire. I have tried to jump it and I have tried to charge the battery. Both seem to get it to turn over but neither way so far has got it to fire... I am only getting codes 12 and 55 now which is battery recently disconnected (12), and 55 is the end of codes. my battery terminal(?)[the neg seems a bit stripped but it is making a connection.] haven't had a chance to look at the crankshaft position sensor, it has started raining.
would the bad possibly stripped battery terminal (?, the part the screw goes in on the battery) keep the battery from getting a good charge from jumping/charging. As soon as I disconnect either it acts like the battery is dead again.
gonna try removing the plugs and looking for water squirting when the rain stops.

Does it sound like its turning over easy? You should do a compression test and post the readings. I will almost guarantee its a blown headgasket.
If you get a real low reading on a cylinder that's where your break is in the headgasket
If it real low in 2 cylinders that are side by side its broke between the cylinders which allows compression from one cylinder to be pusher into the other. If that's the case most likely warped head aswell
