Having friends who formerly worked as mortgage brokers, contractors and RE agents...you aren't kidding that certain occupations are really, really tough right now. Most of those related to real estate are really squeezed. There just aren't any openings.
Might be time for the 'ole career-switcharoo. I had to do an about-face at 35. DW at 49. Roll with the tide and keep your head above the waves..

Career switch is in motion, but slow moving.

By the way, extra special thanks to your generation for all the debt that your kid's and grand kid's generation will never be able to pay off. Hope you are happy in retirement.

getting back to the original subject; did you check to make sure your electric fan was cycling on when the A/C is on? That could explain the overheating at idle.
Mine did this yesterday... Outside temps here are 106+ for the next few days.
I am quite sure my clutch fan has died. It engages somewhat after has sat all night, but does not engage when the engine is overheating.
After lunch I drove straight on to work with no more over heating.
Of course the small Efan runs non stop so i will be swapping the larger clutch fan for an efan as well.

Scrap up +/-$250 and replace the entire system, including the radiator, on a Saturday afternoon.
