Angry 96 xj fuel problem??? Can any one help??

hello everyone. i have a 96 xj with a 4.0L, and it has died, and it is driving me nuts trying to figure out what is wrong. Well......the problem all started last weekend at haspin. i was riding some trails when it started to spit and sputter, i had to keep pumping the gas pedal to even keep it running, after about a min of doing that it came out if it and ran great. it did this a couple times that weekend. i drove it 3 hours home and it did great. went to work the next day and left work, went to a buddies house and it started doing it again in his drive way, but this time it stalled, and has not ran since. the fuel pump was not coming on, so i figured this was the problem. so i put a new fuel pump, sock, and fuel filter on. well.... pump is still not coming on!!! have no pressure at rail. any kind of ideas would be great. thanks alot!!!!!!

What about the relay for the fuel pump? Tried replacing that? What about the wiring to the pump? Have you had someone sit back there and verify that the new pump is coming on?

Dunno if it'll help but try a Haynes manual. Most problems can be figured out with one of them. Worth their weight in gold.

If Haynes doesn't have it try a Chilton. A little older, a little harder to find, but basicly the same idea. Best of luck

Sounds like it's probably a wiring problem. Definitely pick up a Haynes manual, they're a great investment. A computer issue is possible, but I'd be willing to bet that the Haynes manual will have a way of diagnosing if it's a computer issue. If I think about I'll look later.

well the verdict is in!!!!! after spending all this money, fuel pump, filter, and crank position sensor. it turned out to be a broke wire under my rear seat!!!!!!!!!!! so this problem is solved. should have took a little more time and traced some wires!!!!!!!!!!!
