My dummy temp light is barely lighting up after driving for about an hour, just enough to catch my eye. It isn't bright like the other lights, does the brightness of the light vary with the temp or does it just come on bright when overheating? I ordered an aftermarket temp gauge so I wouldn't have to worry about it but I'd like to know while I'm still driving it as is.

 

The light should not be on while driving. The light should come on when the temp is about 255ish F whereas normal operating temp is around 200-210 F.

No there are no other signs of overheating

 

There's a good chance your temp sender is brittle and broken. It is located on the back of the head on the driver's side. Mine was broken but it didn't light up.

 

I should have mentioned i just put a new sender on it because the old one was broken, that's when I noticed the light coming on.

 

Where did you get the new one? Are you sure you got the one for the light? There are two. I replaced mine with one from rockauto before I swapped my gauge cluster for a full gauge one and the sender seemed to be bad out of the box and my light would come on when it wasn't overheating. I assume the sender was the issue but I just swapped my cluster out.

 

I got it from rock auto, the deacritption said it was for one with the light.

 

I would think that's the problem as it was with mine and your bulb may need addressing too if it was dim.

 

Could be damaged wiring harness or connector. Check that stuff first.
