Default Overload Spring?

Hi my friends. I have a 2001 XJ and am replacing my stock suspension with a lift kit. When removing the 2nd side of rear leaf springs, I found the bottom spring broken, and I'm not sure I know what this is called or where to buy one. This spring sits between the "perch" and the leaf pack (it is not clamped in with the leaf pack). The bolt head in the leaf pack fits into the center hole of this bottom leaf.

This is an overload spring? It is 2.5" wide and 18" long. Do you know who has them in stock? Not able to find anything online. Many thanks.

Technically, that is the second stage of a two stage spring. No one is going to stock a stock piece like that. With that amount of taper, most foundries cannot match it either.

If you're replacing your suspension with a lift kit why do you need it? Or are you installing an add a leaf? If you're doing an add a leaf this would be a good opportunity to go with a full replacement spring. Pretty much any XJ at this point that hasn't had the springs replaced could probably use it.

I am installing new leaf springs. This piece isn't part of the leaf pack. The leaf pack sits on it, and then this piece sits on the perch.

No one knows what this is or where to get a replacement? The Jeep God put it there, so I'm certain I need it. I'm also going to reach out to a dealership.

More likely some PO put it there to compensate for worn out springs. Sourced from a junkyard, likely. You don't need it.

No, I disagree. I'm pretty sure I need it. I'm the original Jeep owner and this is stock.

Anybody know what this is or where to get a new one??

You don't need it. With lift springs its unnecessary.

I'm looking further, and I think this may just part of the leaf pack. I also misstated something earlier--the center pin does go through this leaf. I think what's throwing me off is that this stock bottom leaf looks bigger and fatter, and the Crown replacement leaf springs don't have this fat spring on bottom. I think I'm going to cut an old spring to this dimension and still use it on bottom, though.

Both the OEM springs from my '96 and the Crowns that are on it now have 4 leaves one is a short leaf on the bottom as in your pic.

See this statement here? ---->>>> "I am installing new leaf springs"

That statement proves THIS statement: ---->>>> "You don't need it."

I'm not sure why you posted here. You came for advice, but are continuing to dismiss everything. You are making a simple leaf change a lot more difficult than it needs to be. The leafs you got don't need anything added to them. Bolt them on and drive

I am going to chyme in on this. I used to design lift kits for 4WDs in the 70s and had a business installing them as well as foundry experience making leaf springs. So, bottom line is that that second stage leaf is designed to go with that spring. If you are getting a complete spring in your lift kit, then it will have everything it needs. You do not need it. In all probability, that spring is an aftermarket spring anyway since the XJ springs are single stage springs. That should be enough said
