I just picked up a 96 cherokee not running. Thought it needed the typical crank sensor. Anyway crank sensor was not the issue. At first I wasnt getting any fuel or spark and im not able to get into the computer with a scanner. I did find a connector that was badly corroded and repair that. Since I did that I got the fuel pump back on. Now im still not getting spark and I still cant connect to the computer. I have checked fuses they are all good. I tried a new, well reman computer. It has a new crank sensor. It had a remote start I took that out. And another thing is the electric fan turns on with the key. Previous owner said he parked it and went to start a few weeks later and it did not start.

 

Did the reman ecm communicate? What scan tool?
Basics...grounds voltage. resistance you have a dmm? Don't go buyin a bunch of parts until you do basic checks
Does it crank?

 

I figured it out. Turned out to be a bad wire to the pcm. Repaired the wire and fired right up.

It was the harness coming out if the fuse box. The power wire for the pcm it was a red solid wire going into the 30amp fuse. Also there was connection under the air box that was really nasty
