Default '96 jeep cherokee won't start

hello all;
my '96 jeep cherokee's engine died when I put it "park" after driving home from work (before I turned the key to turn it off) and now it cranks but won't start, although radio and lights come on. When I press the gas pedal while cranking nothing happens. Any ideas?!

This is probably not the problem but worth the shot. It could be your NSS (Neutral Safety Switch), this happened to me before one day when I got home, put it in park and then it slowly started to die until it finally shut off.

Try putting it in Neutral and starting it or slide between P-N. This usually is only the case when the vehicle wont crank at all. But its a place to start and an easy thing to check right off the back.

Good Luck!
