Are you saying the starter is spinning but Bendix is not engaging the fly wheel or flex plate?

The engine started briefly the fist time then stalled. Now it will not start at all. I not sure how to tell if the starter is engaging

When will you guys learn that 12.6 volts means nothing without a load? Lights, radio, and other light electrical loads do not mean the battery is good. How old is the battery? How clean are the connections? Look at the voltage while there is an actual load on the battery, like cranking the starter.

Is the engine rotating when you turn the key, or just the starter?

I'm very surprised to see this happen to you, and we have xj of the same year.

Mine was caused by a dead battery.. Try a jump start see if it works..

If it's cranking the engine fine and just not starting, it's probably the Crankcase Position Sensor.

What is a Crankcase Position Sensor??? There is a Camshaft Position Sensor and a Crankshaft Position Sensor. But No such thing as a Crankcase Position Sensor!!!
