Default '96 Cherokee SE 4.0 2WD Wont Start

My '96 Cherokee died while approaching an intersection & hasn't fired up shince. It would turn over but not run. Changed CPS, fuel pump, distributor, plugs, wires, ignition coil. Had loss of power on several wires, restored it, but when tried to start it drained battery & lost power to wires again. Tested starter & was ok. I'm at a loss. About to put in a new computer but would rather know if that's the problem before spending over $200 on one. Any ideas?

Try checking the grounds that go from the battery to the block. Also have the alternator checked. But I don't think its the computer. If you cant figure it out get to the shop and have them diagnose this for you before spending more money.

All wires & connections have been checked. Power is at appropriate levels everywhere.

Do NOT put in a new computer.

Installing a new computer should be a "diagnosis of exclusion" which means that everything else must be ruled out first. There is a 99% chance that this is something other than the computer.

Start by testing the crankshaft position sensor. With the input signal missing from the crank sensor, you will NOT have spark and you will NOT have fuel going to the fuel injectors.

The crank sensor is the most common sensor fail on the Jeep 4.0. If you own a 4.0, eventually, at sometime, you WILL replace your crank sensor.

Read the info. in this link.

I forgot to mention earlier that the CPS was changed as well. We are really at a loss as to the problem. The only thing I can come up with is perhaps the new CPS is faulty. I have already ordered the new computer & I likely won't be able to get a refund as it was a special order part.

bring it to a garage and have it scanned at least....at least it will point you in the right direction. Don't just start buying random parts hoping its going to fix the issue.

The only code thrown was for the CPS.
