Default 96 Cherokee with knock at idle

So I have my Cherokee that knocks at idle, when RPMs go up it goes away. It's been like this since I got it 6 months ago but with money coming in fixes are coming in too. This is one of them. I don't think it'd be a rod knock because of how long it's lasted and that it should still be present with higher RPM but is not, checked multiple times. Info on the Jeep 300k on body and frame 98 4.0 with 166k and an AX15 that has bad synchros (another fix soon to come). Is it just going over my head because I'm fairly familiar with these engines.

He mentioned it's an AX15, so no flex-plate.

Is it possibly the exhaust vibrating against the cross-member?

Hahaha, I would have missed it too if I didn't get excited anytime I see folks mention the AX15.

O.P. - Your XJ sounds a lot like mine - 95 with 300k on the body and 160k on the engine, AX15. Before I replaced the front pipe I'd get an awful knocking at idle, which turned into a horrid knock on startup and shutdown due to the hanger having rusted off.

What is the AX15? I always thought the xj had the AW4. .... ...... ........ ...... ... .. .. .. . I think there may be a rifle with close to that name somewhere but not a transmission.
ANYWAY....I had a knock at idle on my xj,, and it turns out it is the EVAP pump just clocking away faithfully ...Its near the firewall on the passenger side. Try unplugging it and see if it stops 'knocking'.
