Hey guys just wondering if anyone can help me out my 1995 XJs liftgate is stuck unlocked, the it'll press in and open no problem it just doesn't lock with the key won't budge left or right which obviously sucks because anywhere I go I can't completely lock my Jeep. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I can't even find replacements anywhere online they're all for Grand Cherokees or the 97+ XJs

 

I believe this is the main latch if that's the problem. You will need to take off the trim panel and remove it from the inside. While you are there you can lube up all the mechanisms and bars. You can also replace that assembly that has the lock cylinder but you will likely have to get one at the junk yard.

Do you have the correct key for it. I'm. Unsure since you didn't mention if you just purchased the vehicle. If you did you msy hsve to change out the lock.

 

The previous owner liked using the power locks on my 86 was the lock was frozen from not using it. I pulled the latch out, lubed it up several times tapping it with a rubber hammer. The pins inside worked loose and worked it a few more times and all is well.
