Hello and thanks for having me.

I bought a 1995 Jeep Cherokee 6 cylinder out of necessity when my last car gave up the ghost in the middle of a 1000 mile move. I didn't exactly expect it to last given the circumstances and the obvious abuse it had gone through before I acquired it. Three years later it's still going with just the basic fluid checks/changes. So I figured I needed to start treating it better. lol


I was trying to find a better manual than the Haynes one. Reading here I saw http://www.pacificcoastmanuals.com to get one, but they are now defunct it seems. Any other suggestions?


1995 Jeep Cherokee 6 Cylinder

We are at approx. 195K miles now

A couple of days ago the Jeep would not start. Not even a click from the starter. I was able to jump the Starter Solenoid with a screw driver and then it ran for about a day and a half no problem, starting with just the key. I ordered a new Starter and Solenoid both cause there was a marginal difference in price between getting a Solenoid alone from one of the Big 3 Parts stores around here and getting both delivered from Amazon. (AC Delco comparable to what the Store was offering quality wise.) Last afternoon it would not start again, and this time when I tried jumping the Solenoid the Starter didn't spin or anything. (Small spark when I made the connection so I know it had juice.) About an hour later of sitting there it decided to start right up with just turning the key and I got it home. The Starter and Solenoid will be here tomorrow. I'm going to replace them given how old they look in any case at this point, but is there something else I should be looking at as well here?


Additional things going on with it:

Last month I replaced the Power Steering pump and hoses. Also put in another Climate Control panel, and discovered the wire harnesses connecting to it were half melted, but still functional. Will replace those soon.

Since I bought the Jeep the ABS light has gone on and off while driving intermittently. I have a slow brake leak somewhere I have not located yet, and the peddle feels a little soft now. I was already planning to replace the Front Calipers on the next brake change and figure I'll try to get new brake lines before I do that to. What else should I be looking at in regards to the brake system?

Since I bought it the Interior lights besides the Dash are not working, and the seat belt warning buzz sometimes comes on while driving even though that particular warning light is off.


Anything else I should be looking at on a Jeep this old?

 

Next time it won't start, wiggle the shifter between P and N. The neutral safety switch might be the issue.

 

I did try that several times both times it wouldn't start.
