I have a 94 xj 4dr 4x4 auto 4.0 with 172K on it. I recently traded a sedan for this. I am doing an oil change today and greasing the chassis as well as getting hands on everything under this thing.

I notice that I have a noise, hard to describe but sounds like a bolt in a can above 1200 rpms to maybe 4k+ rpms that stays CONSTANT not audible change with RPM increase.

It got louder after a rain this week however during the rain the motor ran silent. Ive isolated a rubbing noise in the brand new water pump via long screwdriver to my ear.

Ive also noticed a clunk on hard right turns(turning around in a cul de sac, tight rights out of driveways ect).

Needing help with any and all of the above. If I start chucking big bucks into repairs the wife will truly own my sack and not just on paper. I am very mechanically inclined(light wheel mechanic 10k/under no track US ARMY formal training) and have more tools then most but missing some vitals due to move and over time forgetting whos using em. I am local to the ELGIN illinois area and welcome any and all help I can get. This is the first XJ let alone Jeep Ive actually had to chase these things down in. All my hobby experience err money pits have been SBC's.

This XJ is a virgin...completely.

edit- I stethed the engine and it is barely audible even the top end so I am almost certain to say that the heart is solid

Found the clunk....it was on the driver side outer mount for the front diff
