94 Xj AW4 about 130,000 on trans. My question/problem is why does my jeep not shift out of first gear until around 4500rpms, and not at all if im WOT?

 

First step for transmission diagnosis on XJ is to see if it shifts fine when you manually select 1/2 and 3. If it does, the problem is electrical and most likely the TCU. If it does not, then it's the transmission.

it could also be the shift solenoids in the tranny i had to change mine cause they went bad and wouldnt shift right

 

My tps went bad and it would hold first til around 3 to 4k.Sometimes it would'nt shift at all.No CELs came on when this happened at first.I thought my tranny was shot.Try pulling the TPS out and clean and adjust it first before you replace anything.If it runs differently after then it's the tps.

 

When I wash my engine this happens for 2 or 3 days after.
