Default 94 xj 289K miles, retorque the head or leave it alone ?

hey,

our 94 xj has a lot of miles on it 289K and its not leaking but im cleaning the engine little bits at the time and was thinking of replacing the valve cover gasket cause that had leaked in the past and i tighten the bolts up and it stopped, the jeep drives fine uses about 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles is it recommended to retorque the head for just a piece of mind or better leave it alone ?

i cant tell if the head gasket has been replaced before we bought it

Marc

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Nothing in a manual about re-torquing the head.

Another vote for leave it alone. The FelPro valve cover gasket is very hard to beat. I did my head last year and used a FelPro on the valve cover, and I could see it's very high quality.

It's actually been kind of weird having no leaks....

yes indeed, ive used the cork gasket 7$ on my 88 xj but not really impressed with it, the felpro looks and probably is strong cause of the little bridges in between cost a little more i believe its around 40$ but worth it.

eidt: lol thats funny, yep this is my first jeep that doesnt have oil spots on the floor, i do see some oil sweat if thats the way to put it underneath but no drips
