so ive been going through my jeep and getting her all cleaned up, patched up and running right.

and like any older vehicle, there is a lot of surface rust on all of the drivetrain components.

im contemplating crawling down and cleaning off as much rust as i can and hitting it with some spray paint....

does anyone have any input as to whether this is a good idea, or should i just leave it as is (after all, its spent the last 15 years in its current state).....

im just worried about it doing more harm than good.

I periodically climb under and wire brush rust and gunk off and hit with some undercoating and spray paint. Nothing wrong with preventive maintenance.

I plan on doing the same thing once it warms up this spring. I like to spray everything down really good with water and then I use flat black spray paint on the axles and front end parts.

I've just made it a habit of cleaning and painting areas when I'm repairing or replacing things.

Yeah, it seemed like a pretty obvious answer to me...but I just wanted To double check.... ide rather be the fool who asks questions, than to be the idiot who didn't...

I was just worried about removing the "protective grease/ oil drip buildup layer"....

Anyone have any recommendation on paint?

I was probably going to use 'under chassis coat' on the belly an likely some regular rustoleum on everything else....

If you do chassis saver clean/prep everything as best you can. If you do it properly once it should last a few years.
