94 Jeep Cherokee "No start With Key"
I have a problem with my 94 Jeep Cherokee,(4.0L engine) not wanting to start with the key?
When you turn it to the on position nothing! Tried starting in neutral hoping it might start, nothing! You can hear the fuel pump when you first turn the key to the on position so, I decided to hook up a remote push start button to the starter and with the key on, I pushed the button and it fired up every time.
One thing I did notice along side the steering column was the metal rod not moving when you turn the key? Should this rod move? Could it be a bad ignition switch? Please Help!
Thanks in-advance for any help.

Dropped steering column today and cycled the key and everything works as it should. Rod moves up and down easy with no interference with anything. I made the mistake of looking at the high beam rod thinking it was for the ignition.
I had a starter in my garage so I installed it only to have the same problems,(starts with push button).
Under the dash near the steering column is three relays which will click when I try to start it. Also noticed the temperature gauge moving over to the red when key is held in the start position?

Fixed the problem. I started with a diagram of the starter and traced it back to the starter relay. Well the smaller wire from the starter was corroded at the connection by the battery tray pretty bad. I did try to clean the corrosion but, it must have a bad spot within the wire that I can't see. I went to our local U-Pull and removed the driver side (+) battery post,(It has the smaller wire within the harness with it),from a 95 Jeep and re-installed it running the smaller wire to the starter relay box(Brown Wire). I simply by-passed the factory harness and finally have it back on the road.
Thanks for all the help.
